By law, the Lusaka City Council has the responsibility, inter alia, to ensure a smooth and timeous collection of both organic and inorganic solid waste.
With this as one of its goals, the Council almost always supports local enterprises and initiatives that help clean the environment such as Zambian Breweries’ and Millennium Challenge Account funded Manja Pamodzi project.
“Manja Pamodzi came on board with the purpose of collecting solid waste, primarily recyclable material, and not just collecting the waste, but recycling it as well”, comments Lusaka City Council Public Health Assistant Director Edgar Mulwanda.
“We commend the project and its team leaders for all the hard work they do in sensitization programmes that have helped changed people’s perception toward recycling”, he adds.
Whilst it is not the goal of the project to do the work of the Council its outcomes will substantially contribute to the cleanness of the environment and empower more people.
