In its quest to promote a clean environment and create empowerment, Manja Pamodzi for the first time ever showcased their activities at the 91st Agricultural and Commercial Show of Zambia under the theme ‘Promoting a Green Economy’.

The project setup various collection points around the show facilities in order to closely resemble the different aggregator sites in Lusaka’s townships; and establish points to be used by the collectors for gathering and separating their recyclable material.
“Showcasing our activities at this year’s show has allowed us to collect more material,” said Henry Kalolo, aggregator for the N’gombe site. “People have also been able to identify us as a good cleaning program in line with this year’s theme,” he added.
From his site alone, 15 collectors turned up to participate in the activity, whilst the other six collectors came from Mtendere. In total, 7, 200 kilograms (7.2 tonnes) worth of recyclable material was collected during the show period alone.
Collections made during the 91st Agricultural and Commercial Show of Zambia totaled 7.2 tonnages over a period of one weekend only.
Meanwhile, roadshows, accompanied with sensitization on how to separate waste were conducted on the second and third day of the show.
Due to the hype and excitement of these programs, show-goers turned up in numbers to watch the dances and battle for prizes in the sorting competition – a feature that allows adult members of the audience to demonstrate the separation of recyclable material into plastics and carton.
